Hanomag Steamtruck

In 1905 Hanomag bought a sublicense for building a steamtruck from Krupp AG in Essen. 2 years before Krupp bought an exclusive license for building steam powered engines from Peter Stolz for Germany. Licenses were also sold to SLM (Schweitzerische Lokomotiv- und Machinenfabrik, Winterthur) in Switzerland and the Hungarian coach factory (RABA, Raab/Györ). Krupp also sold a sublicense to Eisenwerke Gaggenau (Germany).

2 types were projected, a 3 - 5 ton with 20 to 25 HP and a 6 ton vehicle with 30 to 35 HP. The lorries differed only on details from the other license holders. On the same chassis Hanomag also projected busses and rail vehicles.

The lorries weighed from 3,8 to 5,3 ton and were capable to pull a trailer of 2 to 4 tons. Top speed was around 10 - 12 km/h on steel wheels; on rubber wheels the top speed was 2 km higher.

In 1908 production was stopped after building approximately 24 vehicles.

Comment:
Due to lack of knowledge on the German language dealing steam engines, I am not able to give further details on the design for now. I can read the German texts and understand it, but not translate it to English at this time. I’ve put a technical dictionary (German-English-Dutch) on my wish list for my birthday.
